Alpine Hiking

The High Sierra wilderness and National Forest land that surrounds Kirkwood is home to some world class hiking trails. The Carson Pass area offers the casual or serious hiker plenty of opportunities toadventure and explore.  Kirkwood's trails access spectacular terrain, and there are plenty of alpine trails within a short drive. Hikers will also be treated to an abundance of wildflowers in June, July and August and some vivid fall colors when the aspens change in September and October.

Generally, we divide our hikes into “Peak Hikes” taking you through alpine meadows and summit views and “Lake Hikes” taking you to beautifully secluded high alpine lakes.   Hikes vary from shorter hikes around the meadow, to alpine adventures.  There are hikes for all ability levels including kids and the elderly.

Visit Summer HQ at Red Cliffs Day Lodge for trail recommendations, then head out on the hill and explore!
